Precision
Test Systems manufacture a range of distribution
amplifiers and frequency standards.
These products normally operate at standard frequencies
such as 5 or 10 MHz. However, they can operate at
any frequency, either fixed or variable frequency
output.
Customers often ask for special frequency outputs and
this document describes such options that have already
been fitted to our products.
1000 MHz and 1575.42 MHz Outputs
Two customers asked for a 1 GHz and 1.57542 GHz output
on to be added to their GPS10RBN, GPS Disciplined,
rubidium frequency standard. They still wanted the
standard 10 MHz output, but also wanted these higher
frequency outputs. We designed two phase lock
loops to give these output frequencies while being
locked to the main 10 MHz rubidium standard.
Therefore, the frequency accuracy and Allan Variance of
these high frequency outputs were very similar to the
main 10 MHz reference.
Phase Noise Plot of the 1 GHz Output
Below shows the phase noise plot of the 1 GHz Output
that was fitted to the RFS10F Rubidium Frequency
Standard. We designed the PLL to suit the
customers requirements and budget. The phase noise
could be improved further, if required, although that
would have cost more.

Allan Variance Results of the 1 GHz output
The Allan variance obtained for the 1 GHz output was
2.7E-11 (tau = 1 second) and 9.2 E-13 (tau = 100
seconds). So these results are similar to the GPS10RBN's
10 MHz Allan variance of 1.62E-11 and 8.63E-13 for one
and one hundred seconds respectively.
Other Frequency Outputs
We have already designed many fixed and variable
frequency outputs for our range of frequency standards
and distribution amplifiers, including a 800 - 1200 MHz
output, 2250 to 2650 MHz and 10 GHz output. However, we
can add any frequency output from 0 to over 40 GHz.
Either a fixed frequency output or a variable frequency
range.
