RoHS
The Restriction of
Hazardous Substances - EU Directive 2002/95/EC is now in
force in the EEC. It restricts the use of certain
hazardous substances in electrical or electronic
equipment sold or used in the European Union after July
1, 2006. These substances include lead, mercury,
cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls,
and polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
As at 1st March 2007
Precision Test Systems' range of equipment is category 9
as defined by the directive and is exempt from the RoHS
directive. This means our equipment is not and
does not have to be RoHS compliant.
However, it is expected
test equipment will need to comply with the RoHS
directive by 2010. Thus Precision Test Systems is slowly
making all of its equipment RoHS compliant. All
new designs use RoHS compliant components and existing
designs are switching to RoHS compliant components where
possible.
WEEE
The Waste Electrical &
Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations come into full
force in July 2007. Precision Test Systems' range
of test equipment is covered by WEEE. Precision
Test Systems has joined a compliance scheme so meets the
requirements of this directive.
Further news about WEEE
will follow.
